Summary

Vampyr is an action role-playing video game developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Focus Home Interactive. Vampyr is set in early 20th century Britain as the country is gripped by the lethal Spanish flu and the streets of London are crippled by disease, violence and fear. In a disorganized and ghostly city, those foolish, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators  the vampires. Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakens.

The plot relates how Jonathan Reid, a doctor who has turned into a vampire, comes to terms with his undead condition as he is torn between the Hippocratic Oath and his newfound bloodthirsty nature.

The game takes place in 1918 London, with eerie atmosphere and old buildings all around you. I must say that they have captured World War 1 London quite good. A very well written action RPG with a unique setting and excellent writing. Vampyr is a game that thrives on it's setting and tone.

Roleplaying as a renowned doctor turned vampire caught me and pulled me in right away. As a fan of Bram Stoker's Dracula and the Underworld film series. Vampyr is the vampire story that I’ve waited for many years. Vampyr’s intriguing story and innovative gameplay mechanics and Sound Design make it a worthy playing. Overall it’s an excellent vampire game and a great RPG.

  • Despite some technical issues and systems that are undercut by a lack of difficulty, Vampyr is a genuine, good vampire story in a well-realized world. 7.0

  • Vampyr attempts to deliver a gothic fantasy, and while it has bright spots, too much goes wrong to let them shine through 6.0
